Chełmy Landscape Park Adventures

Chełmy Landscape Park (Park Krajobrazowy Chełmy) is a protected area located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship of southwestern Poland. Established in 1992, it encompasses a varied landscape characterized by forested hills, steep rocky outcrops, and meandering valleys that contribute to its significant ecological and geological value. Covering an area of approximately 159.9 square kilometers, the park is particularly known for the Chełmy Mountains (Góry Chełmskie), part of the Sudetes mountain range, which feature unique gneiss and granite rock formations including notable cliffs and ridges. Its mixed forests predominantly consist of fir, spruce, beech, and oak, creating diverse habitats for a wide array of wildlife such as deer, wild boar, foxes, and numerous bird species including several protected raptors. The park holds cultural and historical sites as well, including remnants of medieval settlements and narrow-gauge railway tracks linked to regional mining heritage. Outdoor recreation opportunities focus on hiking and cycling, with marked trails winding through scenic valleys and past geological landmarks like the famed “Chełmskie Skały” rock formations. Anglers find several small streams and ponds suitable for fishing, while photography enthusiasts are drawn by the park’s varied landscapes and seasonal changes. With few crowds compared to Poland’s national parks, Chełmy Landscape Park offers a more tranquil experience that connects visitors with nature and regional culture alike.
